Building Your Home Within: 4 Foundational Elements of Hemma Wellbeing
Homecoming
Many years ago, in the middle of the pandemic, I started an online community with my previous business, where we explored seasonal self-care together. Each season gathered a lovely cohort of people, all on the healing path together in some way, and revolved around an overarching theme to guide the practices during that season.
That Winter, the theme was Homecoming. We focused on becoming aware and accepting where you are on your path, receiving self-love, hearing your intuition and trusting it, and finding your home within (and getting comfortable there). It was a beautiful and profound group exploration for all involved - including myself.
I didn’t realize it at the time, but this theme of homecoming would come to be the foundation of what I teach and trigger a deep transformation of how I healed in my own life and what I offered the world.
The Building of Hemma Wellbeing
To make a long story short, as I emerged out of all of the pandemic years and beyond taught me - which included becoming a mother, healing from that, changing careers, and welcoming a second child (uffdah - as we say in these parts), I realized I wanted my healing work to reflect more of that theme of coming home to yourself. I wanted to use more of that ‘home’ feeling to guide your own unique path of self-care, your ideal lifestyle, and the important choices you need to make for yourself and your family.
Hemma is a Scandinavian word for ‘at home.’ And as someone with strong Scandinavian roots, I really resonated with that beautiful word and how simply it describes my philosophy of living well.
While my teachings are built off of almost 20 years as a student and practitioner of holistic wellness, I wanted a new home for these teachings to live that revolved around all that I have learned.
4 Foundational Elements of Hemma Wellbeing
I’ve narrowed down the themes my teachings into four foundational elements to creating that home within and embracing what I callThe Hemma Way. And as you stay on this path with me, we will be digging deeper into each of these elements, exploring their depths together, and figuring how they apply to your own needs.
Seasonal Alignment - Living in rhythm with the seasons
Incorporating practices that keep you in tune with the wisdom of each season of nature while also identifying and honoring the season of life you are currently in
This way of living allows us to receive support and regulate our own lives with the healing powers of nature, and it also provides a framework to follow that creates space to savor the present and build resilience change, transition, and course correction
Intuitive Self-Care - using your inner wisdom to guide your own definition of care
Self-care that is meaningful and manageable, not performative or overwhelming
This is the practice of Seasonal Alignment, and you get to be the authority on what you need and what it looks like for you
It’s more than just superficial practices, it’s the daily practice of showing up for yourself - of tuning into your own inner wisdom and acting accordingly
It’s defining what rest, healing, and joy look like for you during this season of your life
Body Awareness - understanding how your body works and how it connects to the rest of who you are
Learning to hear and honor the cues of your physical body
Relieving and resolving tension in the body so you can show up in the world as you would like
Using the body and its messages as a guide
Self-love as fuel for self-care
Intentional Living - creating space in your schedule, home, and mind so there’s room for healing, love, and living well
Incorporating minimalism and simplifying practices
Bringing mindfulness and awareness to what is in alignment and what is out of alignment to your goals and desires
Implementing rhythms and rituals that keep you grounded, on your desired path, create connection with your loved ones, and nurtures your home life.
What is Calling to You?
While it’s only four principles, each one could be their own lifelong study and focus. But things don’t live in isolation. Every part of ourselves, our lives, our relationships, all weave together. It’s all part of the same ecosystem that is both simple, yet complex.
So as we explore these things together, stay close to your own nudges. What area needs your focus for this season? Which ones could wait for a bit? Nature takes its time, and so should we.
Begin where you are, and I’m glad you have made your way here.
